This is an important conversation that will take place at the North Austin Muslim Community Center.
In response to the protests that were directed at Texas Muslims at the Capitol recently http://www.dallasnews.com/news/state/headlines/20150129-texas-muslims-on-capitol-visit-met-by-protests-and-hostility.ece, iACT responded with the following letter:
Dear Friends,
The interfaith community of central Texas stands with our Muslim brothers and sisters. We deplore the attitudes and actions of those who foment suspicion and hatred. As people of faith it is incumbent upon all of us to promote the cause of religious unity. The good we can do together cannot be discouraged or diminished as a result of the fears of a contentious element. Interfaith Action of Central Texas (iACT) welcomes all people of faith to be part of an ongoing dialogue that explores the strengths found in religious plurality and work together in pursuit of peaceful coexistence.
We believe the way towards a peaceful coexistence is found in genuinely respectful, open and safe dialogue with one another. |

Past participants of the Red Bench host trainings have reported receiving valuable information that improved their personal communication and listening skills. Training does not obligate you to host, but it is a great skill in learning how to facilitate a respectful conversation.
